Default Lake Sweetwater Dropping But Ramps Still Good

June 24 2011. Lake Sweetwater is 10' 10" below the spillway and dropping 3" per week. However, there is still plenty of lake left for boating and fishing and the boat ramps are in good shape.

Thanks for the ramp info. How crowded is the lake usually on July 4th weekend? Thinking of coming up Sunday. How's the fishing been with water dropping so rapidly?

Don't know what your tolerance is for "crowded" but the lake hasn't seemed crowded to me for the last two 4th of Julys. On the other hand, I have seen just two or three crazies on skidoos disrupt the whole lake.

As for fishing, my grandson didn't have any trouble pulling in catfish after catfish at sunset two weeks ago in the 8 to 12 inch range - he let em all go. The thursday evening bass tournaments that I checked on last week and two weeks ago were grim due to the high heat and high winds then. Only a couple of people caught anything outside the slot. I was told the bass fishing is better in the early morning. I don't fish so you'll have to take my comments with a grain of salt.

August 22 2011. Lake Sweetwater is 13' below the spillway and dropping 2.5" per week. However, there is still plenty of lake left for boating and fishing and the boat ramps near the bait shop are in good shape.

There is 6 feet of water at the end of the long courtesy dock and the ramp extends well beyond that. The last time the lake dried out, the City of Sweetwater extended the concrete almost to the bottom of the channel.

Me and my family went out to Lake Sweetwater during Labor Day weekend to check it out. We heard the water was nice and its usually not too crowded. We had a great time and the water was wonderful despite the cold front coming in which made it a little cool to swim.
Our only complaint is that there isn't anywhere to dock your boat...the dock at the boat ramp doesn't have any place to tie your boat off. This made it difficult to unload everyone out of the boat.
The public beach wasn't quite what we thought it would be but a pretty good swim area.(there was a lot of trash on the bank)
The lake was pretty low so hopefully by next summer it will be back up to good levels.
